Interference Modes
Common-Mode
Noise conducting out onto the power line in which the noise
voltage is referenced between each line and earth.
Differential- Mode
Noise conducting out onto the input power line in which the
noise voltage is referenced between the phases or phase and
neutral, independent of earth.
Insertion Loss
Insertion loss is a general measure of a filter's
performance. Measurements are made using 50ohm source and
load impedance's in a static or unloaded condition.
insertion loss is not an absolute measure of performance,
but is used as a comparison tool or to define a general
performance level.
Voltage Ratings
Single phase filters are rated for a maximum voltage of
250VAC at 50/60Hz and 240VAC at 400Hz. Three phase filters
are rated at 480VAC at 50/60Hz. Voltage ratings are
primarily governed by the capacitors used. Radius Power uses
capacitors which conform to the latest IEC 384-14 standard
permitting operation above these values
by 10%.
Leakage Current
Current into the ground/earth of a system at the line
frequency. Directly related to the capacitance to ground in
the filter. calculated by the formula:
2*(PI) *F *C *V:
F= Line frequency
C= Capacitance
V= L-G voltage
Ambient Temperature
Air temperature surrounding a device.
Apparent Power
For AC circuits, the value of power as the product of the
RMS current and RMS voltage, excluding power factor.
Breakdown Voltage
Level of voltage causing a break down (arcing) of a
dielectric (e.g. air) resulting in the flow of excessive
leakage current.
Burn-In
Operating a newly manufactured supply for a period of time,
at rated load, to test for failures or defects.
Efficiency
Ratio of total output power to input power in percent.
Inrush Current
The peak current into a power supply at turn-on. This
current is higher than the steady state input current mainly
due to charging of the input capacitors.

Switching Frequency
Rate at which the DC voltage is switched on/off during the
pwm process in a switching power supply.
True Power
Actual power consumed by a device in an AC circuit.
Current Ratings
Defined at a given ambient temperature. Single phase filters
are generally tested at 40°C and three phase
at 50°C.
High voltage Testing
Two categories; type and production. Type testing is
performed once for a duration of 60 seconds. 100% Production
tests are carried out for a duration of 1-2 seconds.
Climatic Ratings
Radius Power filters are designed for the following climatic
classifications:
25/100/21
25 = -25°C lower temperature limit
100 = 100°C upper temperature limit
21 = 21 days humidity
Component Ratings
Induct.: -30%/+50%
Capac.: +/-20%
Resistance: +/-10%
Off Line
Power supply which receives it's power from the AC line
without a 50/60Hz transformer prior to rectification.
Power Factor
The ratio of true power to apparent power in an AC.
Pulse Width Modulation (PWM)
A switching power conversion technique where the on-time of
a duty cycle is modulated to control the power transfer for
regulating switching power supply outputs.
Regulation
The ability of a power supply to maintain the output
voltage(s) due to changing input and/or load conditions.
Ripple/Noise
The amplitude of the AC component at the DC output of a
power supply. Generally, in volts peak to peak.
Undershoot
Transient output voltage caused by turning supply on and off
or abruptly changing the line or load conditions.
Voltage Mode
Regulation of closed loop control of a switching converter
where the pulse width is varied according to changes in
output voltage.
